MAXIMUM ROCK AND ROLL
Band Member Bio's

I was introduced to music at a very young age.  Having taken piano lessons in grade school and growing up with sibling musicians I found an exciting and powerful love for music. After sneaking into the bars to see the bands, It appeared that the guitar player got the girls so I studied guitar for several years at the Alberta Conservatory of Music  before moving on to private lessons from many gifted instructors. I have played in such bands as , Vanzigrik  and Sonic Assault and composed original music with several other  talented musicians , but it wasn’t until I formed the lineup that became Knee Deep that I really felt at home.

Rick plays  Hamer , Yamaha and Fender guitars uses Marshall and Soldano Amps with Line 6 Effects.

I Started  playing Bass in grade 8 my older brother Dave had a basement band and he needed someone to play bass. Looking back on that we weren’t always in tune or play the same song at the same time. Man was it fun I guess that’s what got me hooked and I’ve been playing bass ever since.

Through the years I’ve played in groups like Tracer, Trexx Viper, Judge, Model Citizen, Jessie Lang’s “tribute To Elvis”, Jim Skinner And Smoking Buffalo, Three-way,

Four-play, Main Street. I’ve played everything from Willie and Merle’s “poncho and lefty” to Judas Priest “ Breaking the law” and a lot of stuff I don’t remember.

I live for a full grand piano bass sound with rich warm tone and never ending sustain.

I play both Fender Jazz and BC Rich basses with EMG pick-ups and Badass bridges. My main stay amp is a Peavey Fire bass with a double 15-inch Peavey black widow cabinet. If I need to up the anti I’ll bring out the dreaded double 18-inch black widow bin. The Traynor amp I use for arc welding at home and go bi-amp “anything to stay out of the PA and avoid mudding up our sound”. For processing I use the line 6 Bass Pod XT Live “the greatest thing since Bubble wrap” I swear on a clear night you can pick up Elvis on this thing, its that good.

The most important things I’ve learned are “Never fear the bass all ways treat it with respect”, “sometimes you just have to plant your feet grit you teeth and pound it out” and oh ya “don’t mess with the drummer you never know when you might need some back up”.

Honestly the very first band was called The Wipeouts and I was 8 years old in Ottawa where I was born. We played one gig in front of our parents doing ‘Wonderful World” by Herman’s Hermits. I took formal drum lessons for about 5 years from the Ottawa School Board where I learned to sight read charts and  play patterns within a group.  None of that helped me, In fact I wanted to play Rock and Roll and  basically taught myself by spending hours listening and playing to records by The Who, Steppenwolf, Rolling Stones and April Wine etc. I played in various bands in High school by the names of Thundertrack,  Elmer Bondo and the Sideboards and Nova which managed to tour Military Bases in Ontario.

I follow the English Rock scene today as I have done for years and it shows in my playing. My influence has been Keith Moon of The Who  and it seems always will be  Childhood dream to play Premier Drums in the same dimensions and colour as 1973 Moon used when he recorded the Who Album Quadrophenia . The single most influential record of my drumming career

I believe that Rock and Roll should be played with heart, drive and passion.  Play each song like it is your last.  You should come off your kit drenched with a smile.  You have done your job for the audience. Without them you are nothing.

Terry plays Premier Drums with a LM -400 Ludwig Snare , Pork Pie Big Black Brass snare, Paiste , Zildjian and SabianCymbals, Aquarian ,Remo  Ambassador , Ludwig Weathermaster skins ,DW Hardware , Vater Chad Smith funk blaster
and Vic Firth X5AN sticks.
